Mighty might (forward) (forward) just lettin' it all hang out.

I'm working up a sweat as I get down to the Commodores' funk classic: Brick House. The latest version of DDR to hit the Xbox, Dance Dance Revolution Ultramix 2, doesn't offer up a lot to warrant buying it if you already own the original Ultramix, but it's still a blast to play.

The dancing game comes with 60 songs built into the soundtrack and you can buy downloadable tracks through Xbox Live. If you haven't ever played a DDR game, here's the run down. You basically follow left, right, up and down indicators as they scroll, bottom to top, up your television screen. The arrows show you where to step on the dance pad, something you really need to buy to enjoy this game. The steps are timed to coincide with the music, so in essence you're dancing.

The original Ultramix introduced DDR to the Xbox, and while this reiteration isn't lacking in any of the original game's substantive add-ons, it also doesn't add a whole lot of new to the franchise. The game still offers up a wide selection of modes, from battle to challenge to exercise, and of course there is still Xbox Live support. It's this online multiplayer mode that has seen the most reword for the game. Dance Dance Revolution Ultramix 2 expands online play to include tournaments featuring up to 16 players and you can now harass people through voice chat. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like many people are going online to play. I tried several times in a week to find someone to dance against and the place was empty, a virtual ghost town.

The game sports cell-shaded art and some nice visual effects, but you likely won't be paying much attention to them if you don't want to flub your dance routine.

While the wider-selection of music and solid mix of modes makes this Ultramix the best of the Xbox DDRs, it likely isn't worth the money if you already own the original. If you are looking to buy your first Xbox DDR game, than this is definitely the game for you.
