MediEvil Resurrection

As the long dead hero Sir Daniel Fortesque you are reanimated in a slightly bizarre turn of events. It seems while the rest of humanity believes you died heroically fighting the evil Sorcerer Zarok, you simply were killed during the first wave of the attack, catching an arrow in the eye. But with Zarok back, and using the dead as his army, you've been handed a second chance at defeating him AND a chance at legitimizing your 'hero'? status. Too bad you're missing your lower jawbone.

The PSP is struggling at finding a legitimate action/adventure title, the ideas are there, but nothing has jumped out and demanded to be played. MediEvil Resurrection is a noble enough entry and at first, I had thought that I was sitting on a real winner here. But after logging several hours of play, I was forced to lower my game grade.

Starting off the game provides a decent tutorial as you run around the early stages of the game. There are plenty of weapons and combos to master as Sir Dan finds all sorts of death dealing devices including finding that a Genie has made a home in Dan's hollowed out skull, providing insight to the happening of the game. The game is essentially a remake of the original PSX game that came out in 1997, only with newer, cleaner graphics.

Control wise, Dan isn't too bad, there are a few times that the camera (3rd person view) will get bogged up in the environment and/or not fall behind Dan as well as it should. You should also know that the game is one that button mashers will clearly embrace. Rather then a fluid attack sequence, you can pretty much just start hitting buttons back and forth and Dan will unleash some sort of attack.

The strongest feature the game has though is the comedic tone of the game. When you play it, you almost feel as if you are in a Monty Python game, or one of Tim Burton's animated movies. There is funny things said and solid voice acting saying them. The same could be said of the games graphics, they really are top-notch with cartoon quality cut-scenes.

It's a decent enough title, but the PSP will have to wait before it gets its first 'Must Have'? adventure game.
